The Star Arcturus (otherwise known as Alpha Boötis) is a solitary yellow-orange spectral type K3 star located in the Solomani Rim.

  • Arcturus has entered the giant phase of its stellar evolution after having used up the supply of hydrogen fuel at its core and entered the "hydrogen shell burning" phase of its life-cycle prior to entering the helium-burning phase.

Description (Specifications)

Arcturus is believed to be an old disk star, as it appears to be moving with a group of over 50 other stars that is collectively known as the Arcturus stream. Additionally, Arcturus has only about one-third the metallicity of Sol; thus, it and the other stars of the Arcturus stream may be Population II stars.

  • The star Muphrid (Eta Boötis), is only about 1.0 pc distant from Arcturus, and would have a visual magnitude of −2.5 in the Arcturan sky.
  • The Arcturus star system lies approximately 11.3pc from Terra, and is located in a Coreward/Coretrailing direction from Terra at bearing 015.1o Galactic Longitude and +69.1o North Galactic Latitude.

History & Background (Dossier)

Arcturus is the primary star of the beltworld Arcturus/Arcturus (Solomani Rim 2921).
