Amerigo is a poor, non-agricultural and preindustrial moderate-population world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • Life is trying on a world like this and inhabitants are constantly working towards developing a viable source of food production.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Verran Subsector of Ilelish Sector in the Domain of Ilelish.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • This world lies on the Great Ilelish Main.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Amerigo is a binary star system.

  • Both are red main sequence stars.

System Data

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data

Amerigo is tidally locked to its primary star.

  • It experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.

Mainworld Size (S)

Amerigo is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Amerigo has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Amerigo has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

  • The dark side of the world is covered in frost and fractured ice.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)

World Starport (St)

Amerigo has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Population (P)

Amerigo has a population of 100,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

World Technology Level (T)

Amerigo possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)

Amerigo is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.

World Law (L)

Amerigo has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked, and destinations must often be declared when traveling substantial distances across the world.

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility

Amerigo, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of three members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

Trade Data

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Economy

  • Resources: F (extremely abundant)
  • Labor: 7 (tens of millions)
  • Infrastructure: 6 (limited)
  • Efficiency: +1 (average)

World Culture

  • Heterogenity: A (discordant)
  • Acceptance: 7 (aloof)
  • Strangeness: 6 (confusing)
  • Symbols: A (abstract)
