Alpha Trianguli is a low-population vacuum world, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Euxene Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

System Data

This system contains 3 Gas Giants and their moons.

  • Trianguli
  • Squarus
  • Circus

The wag who named them remains unknown.

Trianguli has 3 moons, named alpha, beta, and gamma; apparently, these names were also chosen to conflict with the ancient stellar naming conventions of Terran astronomers. To be clear, this system was named Alpha Trianguli for its position in a Terran star constellation. The planets are named apparently for humor. And the moons of Trianguli are named in alphabetical order using the ancient Terran latin alphabet.

Squarus also has 3 large moons, named again alpha, beta, and gamma.

Circus is an ice giant with no significant moons.

Mainworld Data

Alpha Trianguli is the largest moon in orbit around the Gas Giant Trianguli. That said, it is a cold, vacuum world.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

A large spherical moon with a warm center. Surface features are largely just impact craters.

World Starport

Alpha Trianguli has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

This downport is essentially the landing bay at an old mining facility.

There is a supply of refined fuel, a unrefined fuel tank, and an overabundance of fuel refiners. A dusty repair bay does exist, but it is unmaintained.

World Technology Level

Alpha Trianguli possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government

Alpha Trianguli is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

The small population of ex-convict-monks simply gather to hold periodic referendums.

An Abbot is elected for a term of 3 years, and acts as an Executive unless removed by a 2/3 vote.

World Law Level

Weapons are frowned upon, but carried openly when deemed necessary.

World Military

A handful of the monks train regularly in martial arts and at a make-shift firing range. Weapons training is primarily with hand-to-hand weapons, as ammunition is limited.

World Economy

The moon is a natural source of a Lead-Bismuth eutectic, which is mined for irregular export. The income is used to purchase necessities.

Trade Data

Mined raw materials.

World Culture

The monk-convicts who run the facility are largely quiet and introspective, but have some rough edges that show through on occasion. They are the Monks of the First Cross , a purely religious monastic order. Its members, who are often penal inmates, will take holy vows of poverty and obedience to the Turin Church and Solomani Cause. They are fanatical believers in the Solomani Cause and the racist Solomani supremacist theology of the Church of the First Cross. The group operates legally in the Solomani Confederation and several allied client states. The order as a whole is loosely affiliated with the Knights of the First Cross, based on Cluny.

They truly believe in their faith, but also believe that they need to live for the greater glory of God. Thus, they allow themselves to fight to preserve their lives and those of the innocent, but are called upon to eschew killing.

Urbanization

The mining facility represents the entirety of the star town of Alpha Trianguli.

The monks call it "Port de Salut", or Port Salvation.

Historical Data

The population is entirely comprised of ex-convicts once sentenced to working the mining equipment as part of their sentence. Eventually, the company running the mining facility determined that the profit margin was too limited to justify the risks and personnel, and announced that it was to be mothballed. The convicts offered to keep the facility running at a minimal level so as to minimize the costs for an eventual re-opening in exchange for ownership rights and commutation of their sentences to time served. They did this with the intent of operating the facility as a monastery, which they did. While some convicts left within the first year, the vast majority stayed and fulfill their vows to God and Man alike.
