The star Rasalhague (also known as Alpha Ophiuchi) is a blue-white A5 III Giant star, orbited by a yellow-orange K6 V main-sequence dwarf companion with an orbital period of about 8.62 years.

Description (Specifications)

The primary has a very high rate of rotation, resulting in a bulge that causes the star's equatorial radius to be about 20% larger than its polar radius, giving the star the shape of an oblate spheroid. Because of this distorted shape, the poles have an effective temperature about 1,840 K greater than along the equator.

  • The Rasalhague star system is approximately 14.9pc from Terra, and is located in a Coreward/Corespinward direction from Terra at bearing 035.9o Galactic Longitude and +22.6o North Galactic Latitude.

History & Background (Dossier)

Rasalhague is the primary star of the world Depot/Vega (Solomani Rim 1911).
