Alpha Centauri (also called Rigil Kentaurus or Toliman) is a multiple star system consisting of a main binary system (Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B) as well as a third M5 Ve companion, Alpha Centauri C or "Proxima Centauri."

The orbit around Alpha Centauri A is home to Prometheus, an early Terran colony.

The entire Alpha Centauri system is rich in metal deposits.
