The star Aldebaran (otherwise known as Alpha Tauri) is a binary star system located 65.1 light years from Terra.
Description (Specifications)
Aldebaran is a K5 III yellow-orange giant star, and has moved off the main sequence after having depleted a significant amount of the hydrogen fuel in its stellar core.
- Aldebaran has a dim pinkish-orange M2 V main sequence dwarf companion star orbiting at several hundred AU.
- Primarily fusing helium, the main star has expanded to a diameter of approximately 5.3 × 107 km, or about 38 times the diameter of Sol (star) and hundreds of times the luminosity.
- Aldebaran is the 13th brightest star as seen from Terra.
- It is the 80th brightest star in the galaxy, and one of the brightest in Charted Space.
- Aldebaran is not significantly large or massive.
The Aldebaran star system is approximately 20.0pc from Terra, and is located in a Rimward/Rimspinward direction from Terra at bearing 181.0o Galactic Longitude and -20.25o South Galactic Latitude.
