Albireo is a trinary combination of stars lying about 430 light-years from Sol.

Description (Specifications)

When viewed with the naked eye from the Sol system, Albireo appears to be a single star. However, in a telescope it readily resolves into a double star, consisting of the components Albireo A (a yellow-amber colored K3 II bright giant), and Albireo B (a "blue-green" colored B8 Ve main-sequence star).

  • Albireo A is itself a binary as well, composed of the components Albireo Aa (the K3 II star mentioned above) and Albireo Ac (a blue B9.5 V main-sequence star). The A and B components provide one of the best contrasting double stars in Terra's night sky on account of their different colors. Albireo Aa and Albireo Ac have an orbital period about one another of about 213 years.
  • Albireo B is a fast-rotating B8 Ve star, with an equatorial rotational velocity of at least 250 kilometers per second. Its surface temperature is estimated to be about 13,200 K.
  • Due to their wide physical separation, it is not known whether the Aa-Ac and B components are orbiting around each other in a physical binary system. If so, the orbital period would be approximately 100,000 years.

The Albireo star system is approximately 130 parsecs from Terra, and is located in a spinward-coreward direction from the world at bearing 062.1o Galactic Longitude and +4.6o North Galactic Latitude.

Astrography

The three stars of the Albireo system are located within hex 3006 of Ilelish Sector.

The same hex also contains two binary small red main sequence stars, lying over a light year away from the gigantic primary and its bright companions.

Albireo is a trinary star system.

  • The primary is a turbulent orange bright giant named Albireo Aa.
  • The secondary is a blue main sequence named Albireo Ac.
  • The tertiary is a blue main sequence named Albireo B.

History & Background (Dossier)

Though it is in the same immediate area of space, Albireo is not the primary star of the greater Beta Cygnus 4 system. The primary star of the world Beta Cygnus 4 is one of a binary pair of red main sequence stars that lie within the same hex.

  • The proximity of the star Beta Cygni likely lends the world its name.

Location

A simple chart showing the environs of hex 3006 of Ilelish Sector.

  • It contains the trinary Albireo system and the binary Beta Cygnus 4 system.
