Alasim is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
- It is a member of the Bright Conclave in the Alasim Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is a part of the Bright Peninsula.

System Data
Harod System
The primary is Harod, a huge red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2588 Sols, a mass of 8.75 Sols and a diameter of 455 million km – the star's corona extends out to 1.52 AU, within orbital position (V). The inner system consists of (VI) a dense stony planetoid belt – orbital positions (I) to (IV) lie within the star and orbital position (V) is empty. The system contains no other significant bodies.
Doria-Alasim Subsystem
The companion is Doria, an ordinary yellow main sequence star that orbits Harod at a mean distance of 840 AU (orbital position (XIV), 126 billion km) and has an orbital period of 8,200 years. It has a luminosity of 0.62 Sols, a mass of 0.917 Sols, and a diameter of 1.266 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a trace atmosphere inner world, and (II) an exotic atmosphere inferno world. (III) Alasim orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a trace atmosphere hospitable world, and (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(III) Alasim
(III) Alasim is designated the mainworld. It orbits Doria at a mean distance of 0.63 AU (94.3 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 190 days 18 hours and a rotation period of 19.5 hours. The axial tilt is 16 degrees. Alasim has a diameter of 7,768 km, a density of 5.18 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.57 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.38 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen, 18% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 19% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 34°C. The climate is rated as Hot and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star work across the globe.
Satellite
Alasim retains a single natural satellite, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Masult:
- (IIIa) Masult (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 25 Diameters/195,000 km)
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 190 million km², Land surface area: 154 million km², Water surface area: 36 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Harod System
No body within the system is known to have native life.
Doria-Alasim Subsystem
Alasim, the mainworld, has primitive native life, consisting almost entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the subsystem is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Alasim has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Alasim possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World government
Alasim is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
