Alasar is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Orret Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Mindel-Alasar System

The primary is Mindel, a dim red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0025 Sols, a mass of 0.244 Sols, and a diameter of 334,000 km. (I-I) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (I-II) Alasar, designated the mainworld, (II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (III) a small gas giant, and (IV) a ringed small ice giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

Nevuro Subsystem

The companion is Nevuro, a dim red main sequence star lying approximately 3,120 AU from Mindel and 4,450 AU from Calsaka. It has a luminosity of 0.001 Sols, a mass of 0.215 Sols, and a diameter of 280,000 km. (I) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (II-I) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (II-II) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

Calsaka Subsystem

The far companion is Calsaka, a dim red subdwarf star lying approximately 5,650 AU from Mindel and 4,450 AU from Nevuro. It has a luminosity of 0.00006 Sols, a mass of 0.058 Sols, and a diameter of 73,700 km. (I) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (II) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I-II) Alasar

(I-II) Alasar is designated the mainworld. It orbits Mindel at a mean distance of 0.28 AU (41.9 million km), within the outer system. It has an orbital period of 109 days 13 hours: it is tidally locked to Mindel. The axial tilt is 2 degrees. Alasar has a diameter of 5,491 km, a density of 6.35 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.49 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Mindel cause constant geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.37 bar and a composition of 83% nitrogen (N2), 15% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor (H2O), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen and the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 5 rads per hour. Approximately 8% of the surface is covered in sheets of crystalline water-ice: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: -104°C. The climate is rated as Frigid and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is slow and moderate weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 95 million km², Land surface area: 87 million km², Ice surface area: 8 million km².

  • Oxygen contained deep within the world's interior is released by outgassing and serves to renew the atmosphere: it continuously reacts with surface materials and other atmospheric gases, gradually reducing the percentage of oxygen in the air.
  • Alasar is a Twilight Zone World.
  • The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

History & Background (Dossier)

World starport

Alasar has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World technology level

Alasar possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government

Alasar is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
