Affinity is a rich, nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • It has high-grade living conditions and life on this world is much admired by off-worlders.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Chant Subsector of Core Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
  • This world was colonized by and is controlled from Ase (world).

Affinity has two moons: Rapport, which orbits in a prograde direction, quite closely at about 85,000 kilometres; and Chum, a much smaller captured satellite.

Mainworld Topography

While there are no permanent land masses above the surface, at any given time the world has dozens of transitory islands, low, flat protuberances that rise above the surface when the tides have ebbed.

Native Lifeforms

  • Ishgipmigeku: Sizeable fish that swim in schools of 100-1,000, along the escarpments and crevices of transitory islands.
  • Mushenku: Roughly translated from the Vilani as 'bird fish'.

Many native animals host a cooperative parasite in their gut microbiomes, an unnamed bacterial species sensitive to Affinity's magnetic field. They use this ability to help their host navigate the world's ocean currents and fluctuating weather.

History & Background (Dossier)

This world was once named Vlaakier. It was colonised by a small group from Shaaak, later renamed Syroe.

World Starport (St)

Affinity has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)

2,000,000

World Technology Level (T)

Affinity possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)

Affinity has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

This world is governed from Ase. However, most of its citizens don't see eye-to-eye with the Asei. Affinity has several political factions, the most prevalent being the White (anarchist) faction.

World Law (L)

Affinity has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Urbanization

There are no surface cities, but there are two under the waves: Kayu and Uan. They are nestled against the escarpments of two neighbouring seamounts where they avoid the worst of Affinity's tidal effects and storms.

Economy

Aquaculture on Affinity focuses on flora and fauna that can be synthesised into useful materials and textiles, as most native life is unpalatable to Humans. Oils are extracted from some of the larger sea creatures and used for organic lamps, salves, ointments and other products.
