Affas is a silicone analog of hydrocarbon petrochemicals. It is a naturally occurring mixture of various types of hydrosilicones and requires processing to render into useful products. Affas is dark red, purple, or black in color; it is of thick, viscous consistency. The substance is heavier than liquid sulfur.
It is estimated that lubricants made from the hydrosilicones will increase the efficiency of high-temperature engines by approximately 12%. It can also be used to create a silicone-based plastic that shows remarkable resistance to heat and acid.
The largest known natural source of Affas is the planet Eshaar (Far Frontiers 1826).
