Aether is a low-population water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water and a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Redoubt Subsector of Divide Sector.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is a part of the Hylan Spur.

System Data[edit]
Beecon-Aether System[edit]
The primary is Beecon, a huge red giant star. It has a luminosity of 832 Sols, a mass of 6.52 Sols, and a diameter of 134 million km – the corona extends as far as 0.45 AU, to within orbital position (II). (IV) a sparse rocky planetoid belt, (VI) a vacuum worldlet, (VII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (VIII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world – orbital positions (I) and (II) lie within the star and orbital positions (III) and (V) are empty. (IX) Aether orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (X) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (XI) a ringed large gas giant, and (XII) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(IX) Aether[edit]
(IX) Aether is designated the mainworld. It orbits Beecon at a mean distance of 17.1 AU (2.56 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 27 years 253 days and a rotation period of 33 hours. The axial tilt is 29 degrees. Aether has a diameter of 8,767 km, a density of 5.68 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.71 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.31 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 22% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is an extremely unpleasant pungent odour given off by aquatic flora. Aether is a water world, with approximately 99.6% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1.1m. Mean surface temperature: 4°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is extremely active and violent weather systems driven by the star and the oceans scour the globe.
Satellite[edit]
Aether retains a single natural satellite, an exotic atmosphere stormworld named Zephyr:
- (IXa) Zephyr (UWP Y3A0000-0, orbiting at 20 Diameters/175,000 km)
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 241 million km², Water surface area: 240 million km², Land surface area: 1 million km².
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Beecon-Aether System[edit]
Aether, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Almost all lifeforms on the world are either aquatic or aerial.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (X) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Aether has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World technology level[edit]
Aether possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World government[edit]
Aether is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.
