Abidal is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Abidal Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

Astrography and Planetology

The Abidal system lends its name to Abidal Subsector.

System data

Strukan-Abidal System

The primary is Strukan, a gigantic red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2,485 Sols, a mass of 8.3 Sols and a diameter of 409 million km – the star's corona extends out to 1.36 AU, within orbital position (IV). Strukan's inner system consists of (IV) a large extremely hot gas giant orbiting very close to the surface of the star, (VIII) a trace atmosphere worldlet, and (IX) the Abidal Inner Belt, a sparse stony planetoid belt – orbital positions (V), (VI) and (VII) are empty. (X) the Abidal Main Belt orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (XI) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (XII) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (XIII) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (XIV) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Most of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(X) Abidal Main Belt

(X) the Abidal Main Belt orbits Strukan within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 38.7 AU from the star and is primarily made up of carbonaceous bodies with diameters of less than 200 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of nickel-iron bodies, is considered to lie at around 25 AU from the star and the the outer edge of the belt is considered to lie at approximately 52 AU. The main inhabited body is named Gershwin's Rock, with a mean orbital distance of 45.5 AU around Strukan and an orbital period of 27 years 226 days. It has a long axis of 420 km, a density of 2.74 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.016 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: 120°C in sunlight, -100°C in shadow.

Native lifeforms

No world in the Abidal system has native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Abidal has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Abidal possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government

Abidal is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
