Ababat is an agricultural and garden world with an ideal environment for producing food from plants, animals, or other forms. It supports a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system hosts a population between 100 thousand and 10 million sophonts. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors.  This is a temperate world, with a climate of average temperatures. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Lentuli Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Ababat, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight and the fiefdom of a baron. Both are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world has a nearby Naval Base, capable of handling warships. Less than 10% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr.

History and Background

Thanks to a Vilani resupply post in -4914 Imperial (394 B.C.), Ababat has the honor of being the first world in the sector settled by men. Thousands of years later, it still serves the (latest) Imperium, as the home of a naval base. The current population is dominated by retired Imperial servicemen and their descendants.

Ababat has a moderate population supporting a type B starport a Navy base and is settled by Bwaps. Ababat builds spaceships in the one-kiloton range and then sends them to Saffron (Empty Quarter 0128) sublight, taking about five years to get to Saffron this way. Once the spaceships reach Saffron, they are refitted with jump-1 drives and become starships.

Ababat is located in the Marhaban Cluster, at the edge of the sector close to several powerful Bwap] systems. Ababat is a pleasant world, where the dominant Sunni population has peaceful relations with the Ovaghoun Vargr minority.

Muslim Arab worlds in the Empty Quarter have a reputation for violent parochial ignorance, a reputation that is justly earned upon occasion. But not on Ababat: a Muslim world next to the heart of Bwap space, with a large Vargr minority, the Ababatans simply don’t meet the profile of the typical Emptyhead. By focusing on trade rather than war, they have managed to build up their world to an impressive level, even becoming the home of an Imperial Naval Base, and hosting a good number of Naval veteran settlers. As they develop, they have not lost touch with their religion, welcoming the Muslim Brotherhood as much as the Imperial Navy - so long as the credits flow. Finally, education is more highly respected here than elsewhere, with a fair amount of physicians, technicians and engineers graduating from the local colleges and universities: some of whom are good enough to catch the eye of visiting Tech Tyrants.

Ababat has a substantial population of Vargr. Unlike most Moslem worlds, relations between the local Arabs and the Vargr are good, if formal and distant. “We live with us, and they live with them.” Joint activity is limited to business and joint military operations against raiders and pirates.
