Aadshas had a tainted atmosphere and limited access to surface water, making it poorly suited to sophont habitation. The system has a population in the hundreds of millions, and suited to being a industrial worlds. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Aadshas, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight and the fiefdoms of a marquis and a viscount. All three are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. During the Long Night this world was named Sharpi.

Native Lifeform: Draakling

Flora and Fauna on Aadshas are rare — not surprising given it barren nature and lack of water. Creatures similar to any desert world are typical and only the Draakling, a small scavenger has found a niche in the cities. Aadshas has no large predators — creatures over 75cm or so are extremely rare.

History and background

Aadshas is a medium desert planet relying on nearby Dana (Dagudashaag 3005) for nearly all its food. The relationship is complemented by the production of much of Dana's farming equipment in Aadshas factories.

The population thrive in the many cities scattered across the planet. All of these are linked by super-fast rail system making movement around the planet very quick and easy. As a result (and due to the first inhabitants' nomadic tendencies) the population is highly mobile and only relatively few stay in one place for long.

Industry relies cheap labor, which is plentiful as the nomadic subclass is always willing to work for enough to enable them to fund their next move. Those few who can show intelligence and/or dedication quite often become the commercial elite in places where continuity of existence is essential. All of the senior position are filled by permanent staff who have settled in one city, yet they hold the lower-paid, transient workers in equal regard.

This nomadic tendency has led to the enforcement of rigid, even draconian laws. Because an offender might move on to another city within a day, the criminal justice system is very quick in its duties. Spot fines and, for serious crimes, mutilation or execution is common. Gaol is usually a punishment frowned upon by all. The civil is more akin to the adage ownership is 9/10ths of the law. Those with property they wish to keep employ guards; those without — and there are many — don't worry about such matters. This emphasizes the divisions within the society between those who have, and those who wander.

Travellers outside of the cities are advised to wear suitable clothing and protective face masks to ward off the dust carried by the winds. Within the cities this is not so much of a problem as the high walls and residential blocks surrounding the city centers block out the worst of the elements. The blocks are effective that without the warnings many visitors fail to realize the substantial difference between the sheltered city and the rest of the planet.

Governmental power is mostly on a city by city basis. Although grouped into greater blocs by district and answering to a particular capital, each city is self regulating. Taxation, trade system, even many laws are individual to a city. Certain things are universal: the political system is a democracy of the rich. Only those settled in a city with a senior position for at least three years may vote. Ten years of residence is required before one can apply for the most important governmental posts. There are universal travel and access rights. The cost of shared facilities is borne by private companies that bill each city they deal with.

Visitors should note the inhabitants are still touchy about the global inter-city war which occurred some five centuries ago. It was this war, and an attempt to preserve the world's industrial capacity, which brought a major Imperial presence in the form of the Naval Base to the planet.

World Military

There is a naval base on Aadshas. This is a major starbase, home to many large craft of the 187th Fleet. Political reasons keep the base on Aadshas instead of Dana. Lacking the latter's twin gas giants, the Aadshas base and orbital facility rely upon fuel from the worlds small oceans.
