495-524 is a garden world with a near-ideal environment conducive to most forms of life. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. This world contains an archaeological site with artifacts suspected to be from the now-vanished Ancients. It is a Human dominated Non-Aligned world in the Million Subsector of Deneb Sector.

Era: New Era

Utsbesyult is an agricultural world with an ideal environment for producing food from plants, animals, or other forms. It supports a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system hosts a population between 100 thousand and 1 million. This world contains an archaeological site with artifacts suspected to be from the now-vanished Ancients. It is a member of Wilds in the Million Subsector of Deneb Sector. 100% of the world's population is the Major Race Droyne. Less than 10% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

It is a garden world with three moons[2]. There are always a small number of Vargr and Human prospectors on the mainworld, wandering through several potentially lucrative geologic areas.

Mainworld Data

Mainworld Size (S)

495-524/Utsbesyult is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Diameter:10,990 kilometres; Circumference of 34,520 kilometres.
Year: 618 standard days
Day length: 18 hours.[2]

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

495-524/Utsbesyult has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Average temperature: 19 ºC[2].

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

495-524/Utsbesyult has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

The world has a reasonable amount of mineral wealth and prospectors were not uncommon in the Golden Era. The surface of the world is pock-marked with the collapsed remains of stripmines where off-world companies moved in for a year or two, ripped out everything that was easily accessed and then simply packed up and left[3].

History & Background (Dossier)

World Culture

Ancients ruins

The Ancients site is widely known but apparently picked clean many years ago. It consists of tunnels running into a cliff face, with chambers deep inside the rock. The ruins were picked clean of anything moveable long ago. Rumours of discovery of the "Hidden entrance to the rest of the ruin" have consistently proved to be false[3].

The tunnels themselves are hexagonal, made of an extremely tough material that is never-the-less sheared through at the cliff face. Each tunnel used is divided into rooms by doors, long frozen in the open position. Each room is unlit, save one. Some have what might once have been holographic displays. Any artefacts found by the first explorers have long vanished.

One room, near the back of one tunnel, is partially operational. Light emanates dimly off of its surfaces and one holographic display is still transmitting an image. Two Vargr bodies, apparently from an early exploration team, can be seen: the location of the room displayed is unknown.[4]

Golden Age

There were persistent rumours of small settlements hidden away in obscure corners of the globe, home to corsairs, smugglers and outlaws[3].

The presence of Ancients ruins brings "bright-eyed greenhorns" to the port from time to time, who can be fleeced by local guides offering lost secrets and great riches[3].

Historical Data

Kloellnugdhungkidztse Era

495-524 was a mining world for the Kloellnugdhungkidztse from the early 200s through the end of the Vargr Campaigns until the fall of that state in the First Frontier War, but the general lack of stability in the face of both Imperial threat (mostly driven by Ling Standard Products) and Fel's rivalry saw the potential of the world overlooked in favour of quick mining profits and raiding[5].

Golden Age

495-524 was an all-but-uninhabited world with potential. Its starport was hardly worthy of the name, being a landing field located next to the worlds only settlement. It is unclear why the facility was set up, but there is a known Ancients site a few kilometres away. It may be that the planet was initially settled by hopeful artefact hunters but by the Golden Era it was a small frontier village with virtually no industry. About half the inhabitants were indigenous and the rest were transients with nowhere better to go[3]. Many of these inhabitants were Droyne with their own agenda.[6]

Rebellion and New Era

Utsbesyult, the world formerly known as 495-524 was an obscure world during the time of the Third Imperium. With the exception of a fragmentary Ancient site, and a small colony of Droyne that studied it, the world attracted scant attention from the outside universe. That changed after the Vargr invaded and captured the world in 1117. The new overlords enslaved the Droyne, and put them to work unearthing artefacts for their military to use in the future against the Domain of Deneb. A small group of Droyne escaped captivity, and journeyed to somewhere trailing, eventually bringing back several liberation minded Kroylosses from an undisclosed Droyne world. A low level war raged between the Vargr occupation troops and the Droyne for the remainder of the Civil War period, until Virus overran the United Followers of Augurgh, and the burgeoning numbers of off-world Droyne overwhelmed and massacred the Vargr garrison in a fit of Otritsyu'a.

The liberated world eventually made contact with RQS cadres operating in Millions, and the proximity of these forces caused a change among the imported Droyne soldiers. It is unknown whether the threat or pressure of Virus was keenly felt on whatever world these Droyne came from, or that some other threat was wearing down on them, but in 1145 the more transports carrying Oytrip previously uninvolved in the fighting appeared above Utsbesyult, disgorged their cargo, and disappeared to trailing. Eventually they reappeared, with yet more Droyne. This has created a steady increase in the world's population, and the small colony is slowly becoming a major Droyne world.

Trade and contact with this community has been strained by their distance from the Regency Frontier and their expressed desire to be left alone except on special occasions or during emergencies. The chief Oytrip is the Oysteroum, a powerful group that has its own, locally significant ground and naval forces. Most of the Droyne subsist on TL–8 material, but there are signs that the Oytrip have access to TL–10 to TL–12 material, and even some more advanced gear that is carefully cached. To date the community has been peaceful, making no attempts beyond an occasional trade mission to the Frontier to break their isolation.
