The 172nd Fleet is the Numbered Imperial fleet stationed in the Alun Subsector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Hidden in a relatively quiet portion of the empire along the border, largely uncontested in recent memory, lurks a powerful naval formation. This is more a tribute to an influential Duke with significant political clout in the moot, than any perceived strategic level threat to the Third Imperium. Seven Imperial regular squadrons report to the Alun Subsector fleet command, under the Duke's loyal Baron (Rear Admiral) Omnigunn Du Fegee. He is rumored to supervise fleet operations from a modest, imported, floating grav palace on Diamond Head (world), the subsector capital.

Representative Equipment & Classes[edit]

The following sub-units form this fleet:

  1. There are three ScoutRons affiliated with this fleet stationed at Shaid Mamke (Daibei 1101 D00097C-B), L'Engle (Daibei 1502 C67A430-B), and Guurilii (Daibei 0904 C426542-B). These scout formations feature long range 400ton fleet couriers for relaying messages and jump 6 Tacoolu class Light Cruiser for trans-border operations. This is in addition to the express boat tenders, scout/couriers and survey vessels normally assigned.
  2. At Lisle (Daibei 1505 B88A336-D) there is an excellent AssaultRon whose primary task is to enforce interdiction operations and internal security on nearby amber and red zoned worlds. Large SDB squadrons with powerful system defense monitors accompany the troop carriers and bulk ordinance carriers. A small number of fleet tenders are provided to transport these assets should a transition to offensive operations become necessary. Each fleet tender carries a squadron of fighters for CAS missions as well.
  3. The Capua (Daibei 1004 B000249-E) Naval Base has a powerful BatRon assigned. This formation features several asteroid hulled battle riders with their attendant dispersed structured Fleet tenders. A division of Battle Cruisers and Destroyers watch over the tenders while the battle riders deploy.
  4. The Aswan (Daibei 1008 B000412-E) Naval Base's squadron is listed as a CruRon but a fleet tender with a swarm of meson armed battle riders is nestled among a large number of long range strike cruisers, Heavy Cruisers and a few battle cruisers.
  5. The base at Mordor (Daibei 1108 B434253-E) has a TankRon, and its massive refueling ships are detached to support the other squadrons, but its' escort forces consist of enormous fleet carriers with waves of agile fleet heavy fighter squadrons. Each carrier task force has cruisers and destroyers assigned to protect the tanker and carrier groups.
