Umion is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Loran Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data[edit]

Kellan-Umion System[edit]

The primary is Kellan, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0136 Sols, a mass of 0.3626 Sols, and a diameter of 551,000 km. (I) Pasadra, a small gas giant: (Ib) Umion is its outer satellite and is designated the mainworld, (II) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (III) a vacuum worldlet, (IV) a vacuum iceworld, (V) a large gas giant, (VI) a small ice giant, and (VII) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds have satellites.

(I) Pasadra[edit]

(I) Pasadra is a small gas giant that orbits Kellan at a mean distance of 0.19 AU (28.4 million km) and has an orbital period of 50 days 6 hours. It has a diameter of 37,000 km and is a lightly banded pale green colour. It retains a family of three major satellites of which the second, (Ib) Umion, is designated the mainworld. A large dark green storm dominates the northern polar regions.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(Ib) Umion[edit]

(Ib) Umion is the second of the three major moons of Pasadra and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 13 Diameters (481,000 km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 48 days 13 hours: the world is tidally locked to Pasadra. The axial tilt is 8 degrees relative to Pasadra. Umion has a diameter 7,671 km, a density of 4.89 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.53 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Pasadra cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.82 bar and a composition of 89% nitrogen (N2), 9% oxygen (O2), 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 14% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.1m. Mean surface temperature: -45°C. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star cross the surface. The climate has minor seasonal variations.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 185 million km², Land surface area: 159 million km², Water surface area: 26 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Umion, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Umion has a routine quality starport.

  • A Class C Starport Facility has minimal if any shipyards and can only perform extremely limited repair work.
  • This facility has many very skilled personnel who can perform surprisingly sophisticated repair work despite the limited facilities.
  • This facility has refueling infrastructure and limited refining capabilities. One may purchase unrefined fuel here.
  • Starports of this class rarely have both a Lowport and a Highport.

World technology level[edit]

Umion possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gears.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government[edit]

Umion has a Representative Democracy government.

  • It is a government by elected representatives.
  • The typical power source of this government is a Republic.
  • The typical power structure of this government is a Unitary State .
