Taraque is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

System Data[edit]

Gysoko-Taraque System[edit]

The primary is Gysoko, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.08 Sols, a mass of 0.570 Sols, and a diameter of 788,000 km. (I-I) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, and (I-II) Taraque, designated the mainworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (IV) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (V) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (VI) a ringed large gas giant, (VII) a small gas giant, and (VIII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(I-II) Taraque[edit]

(I-II) Taraque is designated the mainworld. It orbits Gysoko at a mean distance of 0.24 AU (35.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 56 days 21 hours: it is tidally locked to Gysoko. The axial tilt is 7 degrees. Taraque has a diameter of 9,743 km, a density of 4.97 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.69 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Gysoko cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.51 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 1 rad per hour. Approximately 9% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: tidal ranges are negligible. Mean surface temperature: 28°C. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star work across the globe. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 298 million km², Land surface area: 271 million km², Water surface area: 27 million km².

  • Taraque is a Twilight Zone World.
  • The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Gysoko-Taraque System[edit]

The temperate marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (I-I) (within the habitable zone) has extensive native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Taraque, the mainworld, has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of water and nutrients. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (II) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Taraque has a poor quality starport.

  • A Class-D Starport Facility has minimal if any shipyards and can only perform extremely limited repair work.
  • This facility has many skilled personnel who can perform minor repair work.
  • This facility has refueling infrastructure and limited refining capabilities. One may purchase unrefined fuel here.
  • Starports of this class very rarely have both a Lowport and a Highport.

World technology level[edit]

Taraque possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Printing press, the mechanical telegraph, and the first audio recordings.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Coal or other simple hydrocarbon fuels and early steam engines.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Bicycles and early steam coaches with advanced roadways.
    • Water: Advanced sailing and early steam engine ships.
    • Air: The earliest hot air balloons.

World government[edit]

Taraque has a Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy government.

  • It is a government by a restricted minority, with little or no input from the masses.
  • The typical power source of this government is an Oligarchy.
  • The typical power structure of this government is a Hegemony.
