Wideocean is a nonindustrial, pre-rich water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It still lacks adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.
- Its economy is growing and living conditions are expected to rise in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Williamsburg Subsector of Glimmerdrift Reaches Sector.
Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]
Wideocean is a warm and pleasant world. Its bountiful seas, for which it is named, yield vast amounts of food and farmed seaweed for very little effort.
This system is part of the Broken Chain, a Jump-1 main with a single 1-parsec break. Specifically it is part of the smaller half (the Broken Links).

World Starport[edit]
Wideocean has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Technology Level[edit]
Wideocean possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government[edit]
Wideocean is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.

World Culture[edit]
Benefiting from their world's abundance, Wideocean's people are friendly and laid-back, often infuriating to offworlders because of their habit of putting off anything that could possibly be done later. Many employees at the Starport are in fact offworlders used to a faster pace of life. Even a fairly lazy worker from, for example, Stoner is a workaholic by Wideocean standards and can command a very good salary.
