Description[edit]

Vincennes, subsector J of Deneb has 32 worlds, of which 28 have native gas giants. There are no Asteroid (As) belts, four Desert (De) worlds, one Garden (Ga) world, three Ice-capped (Ic) worlds, seven Poor (Po) worlds, four Vacuum (Va) worlds, and two Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds. History & Background[edit]

Vincennes, originally designated District 192, was surveyed in 120. Most of its settlements were established between 140 and 280. The world of Vincennes developed rapidly and was made the subsector capital when the subsector was admitted into the Imperium in 243.

At this time the provisional government was replaced by the Humbolts, an Imperial family of Solomani descent. The assignment of the Humbolt clan to the Marquisate of Vincennes was less of a reward and more of an exile, with a charge to keep Starlane open and crush the nearby Vargr states.

In 628, the Humbolts were charged with violation of Imperial law and exiled beyond the Imperium. A new family took over running the duchy.

Two Vincenzian dukes, in a row, resorted to unacceptable measures in their attempts to regain the status as sector duke. Following the second incident, the new Duke of Vincennes was 'invited' to move to Capital and settle there. The duchy was turned over to the Marquis of Vincennes, who was given a newly created title "Count of Perez and Erisis" to give him a high enough status to deputize for a duke. As a count who spoke for a duke, he could deal adequately with neighboring subsector dukes but had no hope of ever becoming sector duke himself.

In 1107, the old count died without an heir and in 1108 Audine Aledon Garhik, the nephew of the Duke of Zeng, was selected to be the new Marquis of Vincennes and Count of Perez and Erisis.

These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr6,517 through 26 starports (4 Class A, 8 Class B, 13 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 1,786,150 people. Driving this interstellar trade are four Agricultural (Ag) worlds, three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, five Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, three Rich (Ri) worlds, and two Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Vincennes maintain eight Scout bases, three Naval bases, and one Way station. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 6 and 12). The highest technology level is 16 at Vincennes (Deneb 1122).

Vincennes has an estimated population of 35 billion distributed across three High population (Hi) worlds, two Moderate population (Ph) worlds, 15 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, eight Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Dekha (Deneb 1128) and Vincennes (Deneb 1122). The population consists of 3 sophont groups including two native sophonts.
