Timat is a rich water world with its surface 90% or more covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- This world has high-grade living conditions with a good climate and a non-harmful environment. As such, this world is much sought after with large queues for immigration here.
- Most observers think that the planet's economy and population will prosper in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vhodan Subsector of Vland Sector in the Domain of Vland.
- It is a main world which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- It also contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
- Timat is located on the Vilani Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Timat has a solitary primary star named Hynun.
- It is a red main sequence.

System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- Deah, a large gas giant orbiting within the narrow habitable zone.
- Timat, the mainworld, is Deah's third moon.
- A cold, arid, mostly nitrogen atmosphere world orbiting within the outer system. It is designated alpha (α).
- A very cold, insidious atmosphere superterran world orbiting within the outer system. It is designated beta (β).
- Two tiny vacuum worldlets orbiting within the outer system. They are designated gamma (γ) and delta (δ) respectively.
- The Vifarax Belt, a narrow rocky planetoid belt orbiting within the cold outer system.
- Three small intensely cold vacuum worldlets orbiting within the deep outer system. They are designated epsilon (ε), zeta (ζ), and eta (η) respectively.
- A frigidly cold, trace atmosphere, ice-capped world orbiting within the far outer system. It is designated theta (θ).
- The Outer Belt, a broad, sparse, icy planetoid belt that marks the outer edge of the system.
- A chart depicting the Timat system, based on data provided in The Flaming Eye.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Timat is a major moon of the large gas giant Deah.
Deah retains five major moons:
- Mandi, an irradiated trace atmosphere world.
- Arda, a very thin atmosphere world with small seas.
- Timat, a temperate, dense atmosphere water world designated as the mainworld.
- Ethan, a tiny, ice capped vacuum world.
- Jinings, a small, heavily cratered vacuum world.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Timat is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Timat has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Timat has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Timat was famed for its star-tears, a rare organic crystalline gem of fiery colour and baroque shape. The source of these gems was the simhok, a warm-blooded flyer with sleek, brilliantly-colored skin. From its diet of seafood, the simhok received an excess of dissolved minerals. To balance its blood chemistry, it secreted crystal “tears” -- supersaturated fluids that hardened at once in air. These crystals would dissolve again if they fell in sea water, so the technique of collecting them invoved luring the flyers to feed over a floating platform covered with a soft gel to protect the fragile new gems. The gems were stabilized with a resin coating before sale.
Although balkanized, Timat was peaceful, and system-wide concerns were handled by a council from all three nations. Crystal-gathering, small manufacturing, and aquaculture were concentrated in Felholz, the nation of deep-sea ships. Two other nations occupied each a range of seamounts, where upwelling magma brought ores and radioactives to the seafloor. Most heavy manufacturing was in these seafloor cities as well. (The cities were built to withstand the periodic earthquakes that accompanied the valuable eruptions). Per capita income in all three nations was well above sector average.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Timat has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The world is host to an Imperial Scout Base.
- The world is host to an Imperial Naval Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Timat has a population of 90,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Timat possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Timat has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
World Law (L)[edit]
Timat has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility[edit]
Timat, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of two members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 3 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: C (very abundant)
- Labor: 6 (millions)
- Infrastructure: C (very extensive)
- Efficiency: +4 (advanced)
World Culture[edit]
