Description (Specifications)[edit]

This is a Vargr empire straddling the border between the Ziafrplians and Gvurrdon sectors, to trailing of the Zhodani Consulate.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Thirz Empire was founded in 1016 by Aztangkuella Thir (the z suffix to the name is similar to an Anglic possessive). He came from an old family of aristocrats. Thir was born 969 on Uthgvoe (Gvurrdon 0512). When he came of age he entered politics and soon became popular due to his high charisma.

In 1012 the interstellar government that Uthgvoe belonged to went through political upheaval. A short civil war followed. Uthgvoe was spared from most of the war by declaring neutrality. When the combatants had expended most of their fighting strength, Thir took a gamble and appealed to both sides. Peace talks started in late 1014, and armistice was declared. In 1015 an agreement was made. In 1016, Thir was declared King of the newly established nation by unanimous vote of its new council.

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]

The Thirz Empire government is characterized as having a very high degree of centralization, which sets supremely uniform policies that direct a multi-system state and utterly disregards local/planetary differences. The Thirz Empire government is usually classified as an Absolute Monarchy, a type of Empire.

(Government) Structure[edit]

The King is the head of the government. Next under him is the council, staffed by aristocrats that have been voted into their positions by the peerage. The peerage consist of aristocrats that come from the different worlds in the empire. A council member is voted into a position for three years. There is no limit on how many times a member may be elected onto the council.

The different worlds are represented in the peerage, but only one aristocrat may represent a world in the council. Each world also has a governor that represents the King on that planet. This governor is usually from the world he or she is assigned to. In some cases the King may assign someone else as governor; this is particulary true on worlds that have fallen by conquest. Most of the worlds that the Society of Equals lost to the Thirz Empire have governors that are not citizens of that world.

The King sits for life and his oldest son will take his seat if the king should die. He has a vote in the council, but not a final decision. He does, however, have the power of a delayed veto. If a law or motion that he doesn’t like is about to pass, he may veto the suggestion. The suggestion may not be taken up again until twp years have passed. The only member that can take it up before this time is the King himself.

Government Forces[edit]

  • Ourrghkso: Undercover psionic operatives who use their abilities to detect unhappy citizens and potential dissidents.
  • Oruelaen: The Imperial Guard. This group of Vargr psions (allegedly trained by Zhodani Tozjabr operatives) serve as bodyguards for the Thirz ruling family and as trouble-shooters for the King.

Interstellar Relations (Zhodani)[edit]

When Thir began to expand his Empire, Zhodani sought his cooperation, knowing that they could use him to prevent corsairs intruding on their worlds. They have helped the Thirz Empire with many things.

A few of these things are:

  • Cheap psionic training for the royal family
  • Military aid, including giving Thirz better technology
  • Financial aid; helping Thirz to establish trade agreements with Zhodani worlds.
  • Military advisors.

Because of this, many outside Vargr view the Thirz Empire as a large client state of Zhodani.

Economics[edit]

Although the Thirz government is often lacking in strong leadership, it maintains healthy trade agreements with the Zhodani, and most Vargr merchants lead wealthy lives. This is arguably the main strength of the Thirz Empire, and Vargr corporations here tend to be more successful and longer-lasting due to the presence of the Zhodani and their stable economy.

Powerful corporations within the Thirz Empire include:

  • Dashakhin-Arknaeredz: A Zhodani-Vargr shipping line with an unusual history.
  • Eong Irel: A Vargr shipping line that handles a significant portion of available shipping along the Zhodani-Vargr trade routes in the rimward part of Ziafrplians Sector.
  • Iriluezngalo: A growing corporation within the empire, based on submarine mineral extraction.
  • Krazdo Ashsanzh: One of only a few Zhodani corporations based on a Vargr world. It provides a renowned psionic investigation service.
  • Sueklloukhkna: The largest courier service within the empire, based on the capital.

Military & Intelligence (Force Projection)[edit]

The Thirz Imperial Fleet uses some obsolete Zhodani designs and several native designs built at local technology levels.

Most of the ground forces of the Thirz Empire originate from overcrowded Saezghen.

History[edit]

  • 889: Thirz Empire predecessor state established on Zuts Asgning (Gvuurdon 0411).
  • 1013: The sixth Emperor of this predecessor society is assassinated; beginning of the Civil War.
  • 1016: Aztangkuella Thir ends the Civil War, becoming leader of the Thirz Empire; the Oruelean is founded.
  • 1040: Eiao (Ziafrplians 1920) is occupied by the Thirz Empire after attacks cause the collapse of several environment domes.
  • 1055: The last of the Thirz occupation forces on Eiao leave.
  • 1065: Ighksigoug (Ziafrplians 2011) appeals to the Thirz Empire for assistance.
  • 1098: New local government installed on Ighksigoug (2011) with Thirz Empire support.

  • 1103: Thirz occupation forces arrive on Dziradz (Ziafrplians 3217) after a 10 year civil war.
