Tarterus has the population located in one or more dwarf planets or planetesimals in a co-orbital position, an asteroid belt. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This is a high technology world with available technology over the standards for Charted Space. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Shallows Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Tarterus, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. During the Long Night this world was named Sharsha Ar.
Astrography and planetology[edit]
Tarterus is a member of the Dagudashaag Main. The naval base hosts elements of the 50th Fleet.

History and background[edit]
The Tarterus Belt was once an exporter of valuable ores but now, most of the deposits have been worked out. The starport is the only reason that the system is still inhabited. Virtually all the permanent population of twelve-hundred are involved in the running of the facility. The starport is based on (and within) the asteroid Styx, and can hold a population of over twenty times the present level. Most of the excess areas have been closed off, the majority over two hundred years ago. Rumoured to exist within the depths of the starport base is a Timer club, once operated by a defunct company, Future Promise Enterprises. The facility is known to have been operating in 903, prior to the closure of large sections of the base. Records indicate that the 'inhabitants' were meant to be transferred to the neighboring system of Niirkhi but there is no indication that this was ever carried out.
The overall collapse in the economy of the system which had come with the loss of its industrial base saw the system's population fall off dramatically over the last two centuries (as noted above). This led to a fall in the law level but has consequentially encouraged the arrival of large numbers of black marketeers (local law enforcement Is virtually absent). Most items restricted by local and Imperial law are found on sale somewhere in the system — if you know the right contacts. Thus the economy has made a recent, if only slight, improvement much welcomed by the remaining business and administration in the remaining asteroid colonies. The activities have come at the expense at business in neighboring systems, who resent the loss of trade end increase in criminal dealings in the region. Repeated representation to the subsector and sector authorities has failed to address the problem. The subsector government cite the reduction In the naval presence in the system which does not have the resources to deal with the Influx of black marketeers.
