Notes (2006)[edit]
This is an interesting problem: The write up added by our anonymous donor (apparently copied from http://www.panpub.com/traveller/index.html here in an article by Peter Gray, but that's what my Google Fu found) is not the same as the one in GT:AR4. I was part of the playtest for GT:AR4 and know that version was written by David Pulver. Do we want to resovle the conflicting issue here or just leave it alone? Tjoneslo 12:01, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

- I just sent a query to the above web site to see if I could strip it into the Wiki.
- The reason there may be two versions of the Tezcat floating around is David Pulver wrote up a number of alien races (Tezcat and Valkrie in GT:AR4 are two of them), which were published in a ICE SpaceMaster Alien races book. Some of them got re-published in the T4 Alien Archive book (which I don't have to verify). Finally, the get published in the GT:Alien Races series. Each time the editor applies different changes to them. I know the GT:AR4 Tezcat went through a fierce fight during the playtest to make them more Traveller canon friendly. Notes (2009)[edit]
According to http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Reft_Sector/data, Reft 1907 is named "Lamente" and has a UWP of B897563-B which I suppose is compatible with native life as described here. However, the name here is listed as BOTH Gidiir and Aum-Rhar. Are both correct? What about Lamente, is this the correct world UWP code or what? Also, somewhat unrelated, Undreylan is listed as one of the Tezcat client worlds. Anyone know which sector this is, or perhaps an alternate name of this world? I can't find such a world. Surely not the most important contradiction, just wondering. Lotherius 16:03, December 6, 2009 (UTC)
- The Reft sector data pre-dates the changes introduced by AR4. The data file has never been updated with that information. They remain in conflict for that reason. Tjoneslo 04:52, December 7, 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, I'm beginning to get a picture of how this works then ;).... In MTU, I'm substituting B867963-B for Aum-Rhar/Lamente, which brings it in line with the AR4 data a little more closely. Lotherius 12:06, December 7, 2009 (UTC)

- I can't believe that this ICE SpaceMaster race is canonical for Traveller in any sense. If it's been re-done since GT: Alien Races and edited to be more Traveller-friendly, then these aren't "Tezcats" any longer -- change their name please. If on the other hand they ARE still recognizably Tezcats, then they are not sufficiently changed to become Traveller canon.

- Just to make this story complete. David Pulver, the author of the Tezcat (and the Valkrie) originally created them as part of his personal Traveller campaign. He sent the contact articles for them to GDW but never heard back. He then wrote them up for ICE's SpaceMaster alien books. Which is where most people encountered them.
- Fast forward a number of years and David is now one of the primary writers for GURPS Traveller: Alien Races 4. Loren Wiseman, having heard the above story, specifically requested David write up and submit the Tezcat and the Valkrie for AR4. During the AR4 playtest it was pointed out that neither the Tezcat nor the Valkrie fit well into the Third Imperium setting. So they both were softened and isolated and no longer matched the SpaceMaster descriptions.

- If you have a specific suggestion on how to make the Tezcat fit better as a Traveller alien race, please add it here. I'm well aware there is a mismatch here, but love to see other opinions on how to make them work.
- The Valkrie, given the darker tones of the Third Imperium setting as described in Agent of the Imperium would make a fine addition.
