Meta-history & Background (Dossier)[edit]

First Survey is an important source book for T4. Much of this data has been de-canonized in light of T5 Second Survey updating for the T5 edition of Traveller.

It wasn't long after T4 reached the light of day and then tanked that the Traveller community realized that much of the T4 astrographic data was generated without through studying of prior canon. It was later discovered that a bad random number generator also made much of the star charts problematic. By the 2,000's, the community de-canonized the book. T5 Second Survey also later changed many world-mapping algorithms to make them more consistent with realworld physics... This meant increasing world sizes to accomodate atmospheres, changing star size & distribution, and a number of other differences such as the extensions (…Cultural Extension, Economic Extension, Importance Extension, etc.).
