They leach light metals and oxygen from the world’s regolith, which they convert into a form of rocket fuel used to migrate.

The Sundowners are sentient but very slow thinkers. They operate on a different sense of time. They are long lived and in no hurry for any facet of life. They perceive other carbon based life forms as fleeting and ephemeral when compared to their more gradual progress through existence.
