Sokarn is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Velous Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data[edit]

Arbo-Sokarn System[edit]

The primary is Arbo, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I-I) Sokarn, designated the mainworld, and (I-II) an exotic atmosphere radworld have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(I-I) Sokarn[edit]

(I-I) Sokarn is designated the mainworld. It orbits Ketet at a mean distance of 0.16 AU (23.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 336 days 6 hours: it is tidally locked to Ketet. The axial tilt is 2 degrees. Sokarn has a diameter of 4,681 km, a density of 4.51 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.30 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Ketet cause constant geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.17 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen (N2), 11% abiotic oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen and the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 5 rads per hour. Approximately 17% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice and lakes of water, kept liquid by geothermal heat generated by pockets of radioactives present in the lithosphere. Mean surface temperature: -22°C. The climate is rated as Cold and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is sluggish and minor weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 69 million km², Land surface area: 57 million km², Ice and water surface area: 12 million km².

  • The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.
  • Sokarn is a Twilight Zone World.
  • The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Ketet-Sokarn System[edit]

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

No information yet available.

World Starport[edit]

Sokarn has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Sokarn possesses a Technology Level of TL–0.

  • These worlds often contain a Proto-Sophont species beginning to establish a nascent civilization and society.
  • This world is in its Alpha Period and has not yet been interfered with by a higher technology civilization.
  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Bodily communicative apparati, courier-runners, and smoke signals.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Bodily muscle.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Bodily locomotion, riding beasts, and litters or sedan chairs.
    • Water: Swimming, rafts, and canoes.
    • Air: Typically not available unless a bodily ability.

World Government[edit]

Sokarn has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
