System Data[edit]

Elanil-Pharin System[edit]

The primary is Elanil, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0268 Sols, a mass of 0.4258 Sols, and a diameter of 658,000 km. (I) Pharin orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, (III) a very thin atmosphere bigworld, and (IV) a trace atmosphere worldlet form the outer system. None of the worlds retain satellites.

Irma Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Irma, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf that orbits Elanil at 5.1 AU (orbital position (VII), 763 million km) and has an orbital period of 17 years 238 days. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.061 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. Irma retains (I) a sparse icy planetoid belt.

Tressan Subsystem[edit]

The far companion is Tressan, a dim red main sequence star that orbits Elanil at 299 AU (orbital position (XIII), 44.7 billion km) and has an orbital period of 7,923 years. It has a luminosity of 0.004 Sols, a mass of 0.273 Sols, and a diameter of 414,000 km. (I) a ringed large gas giant, (II) a small gas giant, and (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. All of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld data[edit]

(I) Pharin[edit]

(I) Pharin is designated the mainworld and orbits Elanil at a mean distance of 0.16 AU (23.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 35 days 20 hours: it is tidally locked to the star. The axial tilt is 2 degrees. Pharin has a diameter of 5,161 km, a density of 6.68 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.49 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.46 bar and a composition of 76% nitrogen, 23% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 9% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 9°C. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems, driven by the star, cross the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 84 million km², Land surface area: 76.5 million km², Water surface area: 7.5 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Pharin has extensive native life, consisting of multicellular organisms and stromatolite-parallels that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Pharin was involved in heavy fighting during the Corolian Border Wars.

World starport[edit]

Pharin has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World technology level[edit]

Pharin possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government[edit]

Pharin has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
