The Mythology of Lon Beon is the name given to a series of story-cycles of great antiquity.

  • Lon Beon is the name given to a mythical realm lying far to spinward of the Distant Fringe.
  • The mythology includes the many traditional stories and legends that surround Lon Beon, as well as its more modern popularity brought about by the 3V show Infinitys Shore.

Description / Specifications[edit]

The mythology of Lon Beon has grown over thousands of years. These tall tales, anecdotes, folk stories and collected fiction are collectively known as the Mythology of Lon Beon.

Major Story Elements[edit]

The story behind the founding of Lon Beon is almost entirely supposition, the product of generations of storytellers, writers and moviemakers: it has very little basis in hard fact.

Factual[edit]

In 2255AD, the Last Armada settled the Demon Cluster. Some elements of the Armada disagreed with the decision to stop and decided to continue to spinward, forming the Dissident Fleet. They set off across Halcyon Sector and entered Divide Sector sometime around 2257AD, when contact with them was lost.

Supposition[edit]

The story of the Dissident Fleet, from this point onwards, is summarised from the wealth of fiction and fantasy surrounding Lon Beon

Crossing Infinitys Shore[edit]

The Dissident Fleet worked its way across the coreward part of Divide Sector and the rimward part of Fallow Sector, before entering the Orsen Swell and heading coreward into Murian Sector. They worked their way across the center of the sector before entering the Kineda Cluster, where they discovered technology and artefacts belonging to the Slavers, though all of the items and devices were inert. In the process of recovering these artifacts they awakened guardians (described as Greys) and were barely able to escape.

The Dissident Fleet fled the Kineda Cluster and the Slavers, crossing the Grand Arc at a painfully slow pace before entering the cluster now known as Rann's Stars in Lucent Sector. Here they lost an armored cruiser, the Hope Triumphant, one of their major fleet elements. Despite searches the Dissident Fleet were unable to find their companions: after many hardships the survivors of this vessel founded Rann's Worlds. The remaining vessels of the fleet reluctantly started off again and crossed into Jontell Sector, picking their way across the rifts before again turning to rimward.

Into the Centrum Cluster[edit]

As they reached the central-rimward parts of Jontell Sector something remarkable happened - the Slaver artifacts started to work, powered by "subspace energy" given out by the Centrum Device – the Dissident Fleet had come within range of its effect. Aware of the consequences of losing more vessels and alarmed by the sudden awakening of the artefacts, the commanders of the Fleet decided to halt, undertake maintenance, and assess the situation. During the pause scout vessels were dispatched to try and discover more.

The Thrax[edit]

A pair of scout ships chanced across the homeworld of the Thrax. The Thrax already had an extensive array of working artifacts that they had recovered from their world and enjoyed an advanced level of technology, though they had no interstellar capability. They captured one of the scouts but the other was able to escape. The captured scout unlocked the secrets of interstellar travel for the Thrax.

The Founding[edit]

The Dissident Fleet continued to rimward, eventually reaching the region known as the Maw of The Rift, and on a world they discovered an abandoned, highly advanced Slaver city. They settled this ancient spot and using it as a base they founded the state of Lon Beon. They used the GenPods and embryo banks they carried to increase their populations and expand their sphere of influence, eventually coming into contact – and conflict – with the Empire of Thrax, beginning a mutual antipathy that still continues.

Recurring Story Elements[edit]

A number of elements recur throughout the various Lon Beon stories:

Modern Elements[edit]

Exploration[edit]

A number of expeditions have set out to find Lon Beon. Some have been undertaken by crackpots determined to prove a personal point while others have been properly funded and supported scientific endeavours. Not all have returned, and of those that have, none have produced anything by way of hard evidence.

  • The Smyth-Simmerkin Expedition
  • The Long Step Expeditions
  • Jannasta's Voyage

RSSs[edit]

Received Signal Sources from within the Centrum Cluster may indicate the presence of advanced sophont activity, but they are much more likely to simply be natural phenomenon. Certainly there are an unusually high concentration of RSSs originating within the Centrum Cluster. However, this may be a result of more attention being paid to the region than to others.

Surveys[edit]

The Spinward Survey, produced by the University of Selasia, accurately charts the positions and types of stars within the Infinitys Shore region. The writers and producers of the Infinitys Shore franchise have drawn heavily on this data, giving a veneer of plausibility to the physical astrography of the setting.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

The first known use of "Lon Beon" as a name was around 2850AD, when it featured as an advanced but aloof polity in a science-fantasy story concerning the fate of the Dissident Fleet. Though the story was sold as fiction it claimed to draw on "real events, sworn testimony and suppressed information". The concept caught the public imagination and since then a huge mythology has evolved involving the region and the realm.

Infinitys Shore 3V Show[edit]

The 3V Show Infinitys Shore series focuses on the 56th century (present day) adventures of Captain Cameron Church and the Starship Infinity, a powerful interstellar spacecraft dispatched by Lon Beon Space Command to thwart the machinations of the Empire of Thrax. Church commands a varied crew aboard his starship, which utilises a Hop Drive and draws on "subspace energy" provided by the Centrum Device.
