Memmiso is a low-population water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water and a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

System Data[edit]

Paget-Memmiso System[edit]

The primary is Paget, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.886 Sols, a mass of 0.98 Sols, and a diameter of 1.391 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere radworld, and (II) Memmiso, designated the mainworld. (III) a standard atmosphere hospitable world orbits within the habitable zone. (IV) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (VI) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(II) Memmiso[edit]

(II) Memmiso is designated the mainworld. It orbits Paget at a mean distance of 0.49 AU (73.3 million km), within the H– region of the inner system. It has an orbital period of 126 days 13 hours and a rotation period of 43 hours. The axial tilt is 18 degrees. Memmiso has a diameter of 14,223 km, a density of 4.13 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.83 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.78 bar and a composition of 69% nitrogen (N2), 29% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Memmiso is a water world: approximately 99.6% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water. Average tidal ranges exceed 1.2m. Mean surface temperature: 28°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is very active and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans surge across the globe.

Satellite[edit]

Memmiso retains a single natural satellite, a trace atmosphere worldlet named Calbax:

(IIa) Calbax (UWP Y310000-0, orbiting at 25 Diameters/355,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 636 million km², Water surface area: 633 million km², Land surface area: 3 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Paget-Memmiso System[edit]

Memmiso, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The temperate hospitable world lying in orbital position (III) (within the habitable zone) has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive cryophile native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that thrive in the harsh conditions. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World starport[edit]

Memmiso has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World technology level[edit]

Memmiso possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government[edit]

Memmiso has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

World military[edit]

A few years ago a Sath squadron of three Sha'a class Destroyers were spotted in system. It was feared they intended to capture a small merchant convoy assembled to carry out the annual haul. Bonuses were on the line. Since then there has been discussion of moving a few Nassin class System Defense Boats into the system. To date nothing has developed from these talks.

World culture[edit]

Independent contractors from various companies and governments come to this planet to harvest seafood. A few are engaged in mining operations. Small crews deploy submersibles and factory ships for expeditions. Contracts can last a few local months or years. When the holds are full, recovery vessels are sent to collect the flash frozen or freeze dried product for interstellar distribution. As a result there a few true residents and fewer permanent settlements. Workers, sometimes their families and support and entertainment personnel usually stay, only as long as their contracts require and ship out as soon as possible. The planet's remoteness means that few ships come here unless they have to, and you could wait a long time for commercial passenger service. No one is really in charge, just a few managers, company executives, unlucky enough to get sent here, and ship captains. Aboard a commercial nuclear submarine a captain's word, is generally law. Many workers here are trying to disappear or flee troubles back home. Background checks are largely non-existent among personnel recruiting firms, as a result. Occasion mutinies for truly uninspired leadership are told like ghost stories to frighten crews, cautionary tales warning against inefficient and/or draconian ship masters.

To date a few cinematic holographic entertainment media were recorded and produced here. Studio staff, technical crew, actors caused the population to surge briefly. To date two enjoyed only modest commercial success despite a notorious cult-like following on certain worlds. A nature special was attempted in appreciation of the stark pristine beauty of the world, its flora and fauna. The entire cast and crew were devoured by local apex carnivores of prodigious size and ferocity, likened to "sea monsters". The local fishing crews here still think this is hysterical to this day.

Historical data[edit]

At some point in antiquity, large stone statues were placed and/or constructed in elaborate patterns across the floor of the oceans of this planet. Strange serpent and worm-like body forms predominate. These formations bear superficial resemblances to alien species native to this region of space. Some of these massive stone forms allude to a large, possibly precursor species. The current human population has discovered these formations with relatively recent sonar surveys. The great depths at which they are located preclude extensive exploration with the technology available on world. There has been some effort to attract scientific teams from local universities on more advanced planets. These idols lie on large square platforms on the abyssal plains, the figures mass hundreds of metric tons. The origin of the stone is unknown.
