Mainworld Data[edit]

Maran is the innermost major satellite of the ringed ice giant Dallan.

Gas Giant Moons 10a.jpg

Dallan retains four major moons:

  1. Maran, an arid, thin atmosphere world designated the mainworld of the system.
  2. Jude, a rugged vacuum world.
  3. Pallo, a trace atmosphere ice-covered world.
  4. Lazell, an ice capped vacuum world.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Maran is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Maran has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Maran has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

World Starport (St)[edit]

Maran has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Maran has a population of 30,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).

Urbanization[edit]

Approximately 99% of Maran's population live in isolated, self-contained arcologies, each with a population of around a million inhabitants and clustered into vast "suburbs" around the cities. Its chief cities are:

  • Chacago (population 840 million), the de facto capital city of the world. Its status as capital is contended.
  • Orem (population 380 million), subsidence agriculture, mineral extraction and processing.
  • Venet (population 340 million), subsidence agriculture, manufacturing.
  • Willagill (population 270 million), a major fishing center.
  • Mino (population 230 million), mineral extraction and processing and the site of the world's main surface starport.
  • Dalty (population 145 million), major agricultural center.
  • Meliva (population 105 million), Maran's orbital city.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Maran possesses a Technology Level of TL–14 or TL-E in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early meson communicators.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, early collectors, and advanced fusion plants.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:

World Government (G)[edit]

Maran has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law (L)[edit]

Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
