Mara is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Galaxa Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.
  • Around 80% of the population is composed of humans.
  • About 20% of the population is made up of Vardin.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Mara has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a yellow main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Jump Shadow[edit]

The Jump Shadow of the star lies at 0.936 AU. The mainworld orbits beyond the safe jump distance.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Mara is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Mara has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Mara has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Extensive, abundant aquatic native life. Its metabolic processes maintain the world's atmosphere.

  • The world-ocean is home to many kinds of carnivorous megafauna.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Mara is a part of Vardin Space.

Elements of the Korsumug Glorious Triumph Fleet regularly conduct raids within the system.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Mara has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Mara has a population of 300,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • Approximately 80% of the population (around 150,000 individuals) consists of humans.
  • Around 20% of the population (around 60,000 individuals) consists of Vardin.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Mara possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Mara is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.

World Law (L)[edit]

Mara has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

Importance: +1 (important)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 8 (moderate)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -1 (average)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity 7 (Discordant)
  • Acceptance 6 (Aloof)
  • Strangeness 4 (Somewhat distinct)
  • Symbols B (Abstract)
