Loran is a low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment .
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Loran Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data[edit]
Maretar System[edit]
The primary is Maretar, a gigantic red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2382 Sols, a mass of 7.85 Sols, and a diameter of 363 million km – the corona extends as far as 1.21 AU, deep within orbital position (IV). The inner system consists of (V) a very hot small gas giant, (VI) a sparse rocky planetoid belt, (VII) a dense rocky planetoid belt, (VIII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (IX) a dense atmosphere hospitable world – orbital positions (I) to (III) lie within the star and orbital position (IV) is effectively empty. None of the worlds retain satellites.
Punctio-Loran Subsystem[edit]
The companion is Punctio, an ordinary orange main sequence star with lying approximately 4,500 AU from Maretar. It has a luminosity of 0.056 Sols, a mass of 0.5214 Sols, and a diameter of 773,000 km. (I) Loran orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (III) a ringed small ice giant, (IV) a large gas giant, (V) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VI) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(I) Loran[edit]
(I) Loran is designated the mainworld. It orbits Punctio at a mean distance of 0.20 AU (29.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 45 days 6 hours: it is tidally locked to Punctio. The axial tilt is 5 degrees. Loran has a diameter of 6,265 km, a density of 5.21 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.47 G. The world is flexed by tidal forces and is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.83 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen, 22% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by airborne contaminants of organic origin that produce a psychological response in humans. Approximately 23% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.1m. Mean surface temperature: 32°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star sweep across the globe. The climate is static.
Mainworld geography and topography[edit]
Total surface area: 123 million km², Land surface area: 95 million km², Water surface area: 28 million km².
Native lifeforms[edit]
Loran has extensive, abundant native life, with organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Loran has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World technology level[edit]
Loran possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World government[edit]
Loran has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
