The Lombardo class Assault Transport is a TL–11 Assault Transport.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The hull is an unarmored, partially streamlined close configuration. It is fitted with fuel scoops and on board fuel purification for wilderness gas giant refueling. They carry enough fuel internally for 28 days of power plant operation and two Jump-2s. A pair of model/5 fib ship computers are mounted adjacent to the bridge. The prototype and lead vessel of this class, the eponymous NSS Lombardo, required 144 weeks to construct. The five production models that followed were all completed at the same time in 116 weeks. Because these are converted heavy freighters, once the bids were awarded the process was expedited by the experienced ship wrights, hull fabricators, and naval architects. The lack of hull armor and agility are seen as cost saving measures.
Weapon systems feature a single battery of 10 hard hitting, triple pulse laser turrets, 20 independently targeted, plasma cannons for point defense, a particle accelerator bay and a heavy missile bay. Defenses include 10 triple sand caster batteries organized into a single battery.
They use four 70T shuttles to fly to the planetary surface to recover their brood. The jump troops assault with their capsules. Some military grav vehicles can be carried as cargo. They carry four light marine companies. They are lightly armed to help ensure they can survive long enough to deliver and eventually retrieve their ground forces. They have been known to loiter in close orbit to provide ortillery support with their heavy missile bay.
The crew includes 11 command, 9 engineering, 27 gunnery, 13 flight, 10 service and 400 marines. There are 235 staterooms for the 57 officers and 413 enlisted crew.
Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary.
