Kylen is an icy, nonindustrial world, whose surface is ice-capped and with nearly all of its water frozen.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Loran Subsector of Halcyon Sector.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

System Data[edit]
Pad System[edit]
The primary is Pad, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0136 Sols, a mass of 0.3626 Sols, and a diameter of 551,000 km. (I) a standard atmosphere radworld, (II) a vacuum iceworld, (III) a small gas giant, (IV) a small ice giant, (V) a very thin atmosphere radworld, and (VI) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Darran-Kylen System[edit]
The companion is Darran, a dim red subdwarf star that orbits Pad at 303.5 AU (orbital position (XII), 4.54 billion km) and has an orbital period of 8,780 years. It has a luminosity of 0.00103 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols, and a diameter of 109,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a dense atmosphere stormworld, (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (IV) Isodor, a ringed large gas giant: (IVd) Kylen is its outer moon and is designated the mainworld, (V) a dense stony planetoid belt, and (VI) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
(IV) Isodor[edit]
(IV) Isodor is a ringed large gas giant that orbits Darran at a mean distance of 1.12 AU (167.6 million km) and has an orbital period of 4 years 60 days. It has a diameter of 98,000 km and is a heavily banded brown-tan colour. It retains a family of four major satellites of which the outer, (IVd) Kylen, is designated the mainworld.
Satellites[edit]
Isodor retains a family of four major satellites:
- (IVa) Eselde (UWP Y102000-0, orbiting at 8 Diameters/785,000 km)
- (IVb) Ormo (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 9 Diameters/880,000 km)
- (IVc) Jaragen (UWP H4A0000-0, orbiting at 12 Diameters/1.17 million km)
- (IVd) Kylen, designated the mainworld, orbiting at 35 Diameters/3.43 million km)
Mainworld Data[edit]
(IVd) Kylen[edit]
(IVd) Kylen is the outer of the four major moons of (IV) Isodor and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 35 diameters (3.43 million km), with an orbital period of 1 year 203 days: it is tidally locked to Isodor. It has an axial tilt of 2 degrees. Kylen has a diameter of 4,618 km, a density of 4.29 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.28 G. Tidal stresses caused by the gravitational pull of Isodor cause occasional geological activity. It retains an atmosphere rated as Trace, with a surface pressure of 0.03 bar and a composition of 98% carbon dioxide (CO2), 1% nitrogen (N2), and 1% argon (Ar), neon (Ne), methane (CH4), azane (NH3) and other trace gases. Around 19% of the surface is covered in sheets of water ice. Mean surface temperature: -145°C.
Mainworld geography and topography[edit]
Total surface area: 67 million km², Land surface area: 54 million km², Ice surface area: 13 million km².
Native lifeforms[edit]
No world in the Kylen system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Kylen has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level[edit]
Kylen possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World government[edit]
Kylen is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
