Government Structure[edit]

King Axel IX

The Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy. The foundation of law and authority is the Great Charter

  • The Charter is a document that formalizes the principle that the king and his government are not above the law. It prevents the king from exploiting his power, and places limits on Royal authority by establishing law as a power in itself.
  • The Charter was drawn up in the early 600s.

The monarch exercises their authority in accordance with the Great Charter and is assisted in their decision-making by officials elected to office by the public (Ministers), most of whom are drawn from high-ranking noble families. While the state is heavily centralized, through necessity it grants a large amount of sovereignty to local (planetary) governments. The monarch, the noble houses, and the government create a unified policy for the state as a whole. The King serves as a figurehead.

The political hierarchy of the Kingdom is simple. It consists of:

  • The King, the head of state. If the current ruling monarch is female they adopt the title of Queen.
    • The polity remains as a Kingdom no matter the gender of the monarch.
  • Counts, of varying degrees of seniority, governing counties within the Kingdom. Females adopt the title Countess.
    • Counts are drawn from high ranking noble families.
    • Counts may appoint Barons to oversee their interests.
  • Appointed officers of the state: these include elected Ministers, appointed Magistrates, Sheriffs, and members of the Yeomanry.

The King, the Royal Court, and the Council of Ministers.

The Ministries of Government, headed by elected officials (Ministers).

  • These include the Ministry of Defence, the Treasury, the Ministry of Justice, the Department of Labor, and the Office of External Affairs.

The Counties of the Kingdom, each controlled by a royally appointed Count.

  • A County is an administrative region. Some can be small, such as a city, while others may encompass a continent or an entire world. Counties can exist within larger counties.
  • The Counts of the Kingdom meet in the Royal Court.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

After the devastation of Zephor, their homeworld, and the extinction of their fellow native sophonts the Zephora, the majority of the surviving Tshini moved to a planet they call Tshi, a secondary world in the Bytholm system in Evalren Subsector. The Kingdom of Peladon was instrumental in facilitating the move, providing starships to transport the Tshini, large amounts of supplies, and experts who were able to assist with their resettlement.

Demographics[edit]

Significant populations of the following sophont races reside within this polity:

Technology & Trade (Economy)[edit]

Planets in the Kingdom range from TL–5 to TL–13.

Peladon Royal Merchant Marine[edit]

Royal charters are granted to trade consortiums run by various noble houses - transport corporations that gain this status become part of the Peladon Royal Merchant Marine, which grants certain rights and privileges while operating within the Kingdom. Competition to win and retain royal charters is fierce as they lead to vast wealth and are used by the throne to ensure loyalty among favored vassals. A few classes of merchant vessels operate within the borders of the kingdom but one of the most common is the KPel-03 Burning Sky class Merchant Schooner.

Naval Forces[edit]

The Kingdom is defended by the Royal Peladon Navy.

  • This is generally abbreviated to RPN.

Cabon Defense Force[edit]

Cabon has an extensive local navy, fielding approximately three hundred monitors as well as various other smaller vessels: Cabon-built monitors form the defensive backbone of the Kingdom. Monitors are carried to their destination systems by Distribution class Commercial Carriers serving as RPN vessels.

  • Monitors are divided into thirty squadrons each of ten vessels.

Squadrons

  • 13 Cabon squadrons perform "Outworld Service" on a cycling basis: they are transported to systems within the Kingdom to support their local defence forces.
  • 14 Cabon squadrons remain within the home system.
  • 2 Cabon squadrons act as a "Special Service Force" within the Futrick system, beyond the Kingdom's borders.
  • 1 Cabon squadron is kept as a training and reserve unit.
