Jarsae has a short-sleeve breathable atmosphere. The system has a population between ten million and 100 million sophonts. The world has a colony on Mikakesh (Dagudashaag 2802). It is a member of Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Jarsae, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight and the fiefdom of a baron. Both are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. During the Long Night this world was named Nike.

Astrography and planetology[edit]

Jarsae is located on the Vilani Main.

Jarsae is one of six balkanized worlds in the Iiradu subsector, but the only one that qualifies as Rich. This is not surprising considering the abundance of resources easily available in the system. Ores, radioactives, crystals, organic compounds, and agricultural resources are easily obtainable; agroproducts and metals account for most of Jarsae's processes resources.

Geographically the planet has two areas worthy of note. First, the only major land mass (about 16 million square km) situated in the norther hemisphere and roughly diamond shaped. Second is a series of islands scattered around the equatorial regions, with none found any further south. Some ten islands make up the remaining 770,000 square km.

History and Background[edit]

Politically the planet has three distinct governments:

  1. Axc
  2. Diflannu
  3. Karnasta

Because of the significant differences in type and law level, visitors must know where they will be traveling. Almost all of the population is located on the main land mass which is divided roughly in half. Karnasta is the eastern portion with a population of 30 million run by a charismatic oligarchy. Axc is the western portion, with 60 million people, in a feudal technocracy similar to the government on Irsaar (Dagudashaag 2604), though less extreme. The third political entity is Diflannu, and consists of all the island groups with 990,000 people living under a self-perpetuating oligarchy. It was an offshoot of Karnasta and is now considered a minor player by the two more northerly countries.

Karnasta and Axc are old enemies but avoid outright conflict. Instead they settle dispute (mostly border disputes) with an interesting form of armed battle where no weapons or armor over TL–2 are allowed. The resulting pitched battles are the real thing. The injuries are treated with advanced medical technology so very few people die in these battles. It is considered an honor in both societies to carry scars from these battles.

The two countries also compete in developing technology for export.

Diflannu stays out of the arguments of their neighbors, having a very relaxed and sub-tropical type laid back culture. Each year there is a yacht race around the equator. Using the latest technology for their boat designs, some of the yacht are works of art. The highly automated craft require a crew of one and have the endurance to complete the 60 day race.

World Culture[edit]

Jarsae is a stronghold of the Shampka religion.
