The Iluk'uu of Khaolr (Mavuzog 3037) are an aquatic Minor Non-Human Race from a temperate ocean world. They share their homeworld with several Aslan clans.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Iluk'uu are large ocean-dwelling pack chasers with bio-electrical sensitivity, a sophisticated society, and an ancient culture rich in traditions and rights.

Mostly carnivorous, Iluk'uu long ago evolved to be the dominant species of Khaolr (which is the name given to the planet by Aslan settlers). Environmental circumstances allowed the development of metallurgy in the species' pre-history, initially utilising caverns with volcanic vents before purpose built undersea structures as their society developed.

Electroreceptive organs aided early Iluk'uu in their hunt for prey; it also significantly aided their development of electrical technology. Electronic devices designed by Iluk'uu often rely on the user's electrical perception as part of the data output of the device, which also makes them largely unusable by beings without an electroreceptive sense.

The language of Iluk'uu is primarily vocal, and can carry for considerable distances underwater. In addition to vocalisations, their electroreceptive organs help to detect the "mood" of other individuals when in close proximity, and patterns of bubbles from their mouths also serve a purpose in communication, often replacing simple words or commands, or even expletives.

While relying on their gills to extract oxygen from the water, a typical adult Iluk'uu can survive for a few minutes out of the water. Iluk'uu dwell throughout the oceans of the world at all but the very deepest depths, though invariably returning to the shallows to lay their eggs after mating. Once hatched the young remain around the coastal shelf of the planet's few landmasses to mature, before finally returning to the ocean depths as young adults.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The arrival of Aslan pioneers and colonists on Khaolr between 1060 and 1065 brought a crisis of a scale not before seen by the Iluk'uu, namely that the Aslan saw the indigenous piscinoids merely as a source of food, not initially realising that the native race were sophonts. Depredations of the Aslan on the Iluk'uu, especially upon those in the early stages of their life cycle in the shallows, continued for several years before effective communication was established between the surface-dwelling Aslan and the ocean-dwelling Iluk'uu. While the Aslan have ceased the practice of preying on the sophont piscinoids, the period was a dark time for the Iluk'uu and relations between the races have not recovered. Although unable to enforce such, most Iluk'uu would like to see the Aslan depart the planet.

The Trial of the Hermigon is a cautionary tale about ancestral territories.
