History and background[edit]

Haven's Gate was originally colonized by Solomani fleeing the early stages of the Long Night. They named the world Haven’s Gate because it seemed to offer a respite from the chaos. When their starship was destroyed by pirates while in orbit, what was intended as a respite became a permanent home. Most of the planet’s animal and plant life have high concentrations of potassium, which render it inedible. The colony managed to survive for centuries by farming edible pseudo-moss, but this hand-to-mouth existence drained the vitality out of the people. By the time the Vilani moved back to the world a thousand years later, all of the colonists had perished.

The world is now home only to the IISS, who operate a small scout vessel repair facility in the ruins of the city of Petra.
