Description[edit]

Gordon was originally colonized by Humans from the Second Imperium, although it was never itself a part of the Imperium. It was partially conquered in 613 by the Tezcat.

History[edit]

Gordon was settled during the Rule of Man by one of several groups that sought to leave before the Long Night set in. The mission used tankers to shuttle the colony ships across the Great Rift. One of these ships disappeared during the transit, and the tankers were also lost. Making the most of it, the colonists settled both Gordon and Arnorac, the remaining Jump-capable ships used to maintain communications and trade between the settlements until they wore out.

On Gordon, challenging conditions forced the colonists to spread out, building several communities.

After several generations, some settlements became large enough to support a return to space. Satellites were successfully launched and vessels put into orbit. Contact was reestablished with Arnorac.

In the 630s, Tezcat colonists arrived. The target region only had a small population, so the Tezcat invaded. However, the local Humans put up a surprising resistance, managing to fend off the Tezcat's superior numbers several times. Parts of Gordon were finally conquered in 613, adding a new settlement to the growing Tezcat empire.

By 1105, Gordon has a population of some 60,000,000 people divided between several large settlements and many small ones (Human or Tezcat). Most are located underground and have access to water sources but rely mainly on starship-style recycling and life support systems.

Contact with the Imperium has changed little. Occasional trade ships bring in Imperial goods, and trade with Arnorac (by Human settlements) and Aum-rhar (for Tezcat) is now well established, but for the most part Gordon remains a self-sufficient society.
