• Toward the close of the Rim War, Gemstar attempted to secede from the Confederation, but the Armistice ended the war with Confederation forces occupying the system.
• The Confederation signed the Treaty of Gemstar, which established Gemstar as a Solomani client state with guaranteed internal self-rule but restrictions on planetary naval forces and foreign policy.
• The Treaty also provided for a Confederation Navy base to be permanently established in the system and for Confederation forces to perform all military space patrols.
