System Data

Oribana-Feluchar System

The primary is Oribana, a young and active blue-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 45.6 Sols, a mass of 2.48 Sols, and a diameter of 3.28 million km. Orbital positions (I) through (IV) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. The inner system consists of (V) a warm large gas giant and (VI) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (VII) Feluchar orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VIII) a vacuum worldlet, (IX) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (X) a thin atmosphere radworld, (XI) a small gas giant, (XII) a vacuum iceworld, and (XIII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the outer worlds retain satellites.

Virio Subsystem

The companion is Virio, an ordinary orange main sequence star that orbits Oribana at a mean distance of 0.41 AU (orbital position (II), 61.3 million km) and has an orbital period of 58 days 16 hours. It has a luminosity of 0.064 Sols, a mass of 0.5376 Sols, and a diameter of 778,000 km. Virio retains no planetary bodies.

(VII) Feluchar

(VII) Feluchar is designated the mainworld and orbits the Oribana-Virio binary pair at a mean distance of 5.48 AU (772 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 8 years 53 days and a rotation period of 28.5 hours. The axial tilt is 23 degrees. Feluchar has a diameter of 15,132 km, a density of 6.22 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.34 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 2.32 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen (N₂), 18% oxygen (O₂), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO₂), ozone (O₃), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 81% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.75m. Mean surface temperature: 37°C. The climate is rated as Hot and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the stars and the oceans, surge across the globe.

Feluchar retains a single natural satellite, an ice-capped trace atmosphere worldlet named Malachar:

Mainworld Geography & Topography

Total surface area: 719 million km², Water surface area: 582 million km², Land surface area: 137 million km². The majority of the land surface is concentrated into a single rugged supercontinent called Hyphaea, which dominates much of the southern hemisphere. The rest of the globe is dotted with subcontinental islands and archipelagos. The shallow nature of the oceans creates vast wetland areas and tidal flats. The world is geologically active, particularly along the central mountainous spine of Hyphaea and within a corresponding ocean trench running generally towards the northern pole of the world.

Feluchar is exotic and it is naturally beautiful: pastel-coloured mycelium grass plains merge into forests made up of chitin-barked and globe-leafed spine-trees. During some seasons, when the weather conditions are perfect, the air fills with floating translucent spheres that drift on the wind for hundreds of kilometers before bursting and spreading their cargo of spores.

Native Lifeforms

Oribana-Feluchar System

Feluchar, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Flora is fast-growing, with a tendency towards fleshy stems and clusters of gelatinous dome-shaped foliage that is predominantly greenish-white in colour: it displays many characteristics associated with fungi. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Despite the high surface gravity many species of animals grow to great size. Most land fauna follows the body pattern Asymetrical N-TBS-AL-LN-T, with cartilage interiors, scum fluids and leathery exteriors. Local lifeforms cannot be consumed by humans.
