History & Background (Dossier)

The Consular decision to mount a massive power plant which facilitates the powerful computer, variety of energy weapons and its slippery agility, in lieu of hull armor has been shown to be only marginally successful in battle. The cheaper hull keeps the unit price down but at the expense of surviveability. Which leads to battlefield recovery, followed by lengthy weeks and months of repair and re-manufacture time in frontier repair bays.

Imperial intelligence believes this approach was in response to a imperial naval academy dissertation which questioned the value of armor in the age of spinal mounted meson gun kills, the paper went on to extol the value of elusive targets. What the Zhodani naval architects and the author failed to realize is that in the escort business, secondary weapons are assigned to annihilate escort vessels and ship's of the line tend to reserve their fire for other capital ships.
