Darkmoon is a rich, nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • It has high-grade living conditions and life on this world is much admired by off-worlders.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a main world which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
  • This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
  • A Prison World, exile camp, or prison camp for criminals or other exiles is located upon this world in addition to other points of interest.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Naadi Subsector of Corridor Sector in the Domain of Vland.
  • During the Second Imperium this world was named Muumma.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

The Darkmoon System lies in the Naadi Subsector of the Corridor Sector that connects the Spinward Marches to the core worlds of the Third Imperium.

System Data[edit]

  • Murk
  • Tsenjia (traditional mainworld)
  • Asteroid Belt
  • Stygos: 12 moons
  • Huntmun: 6 moons
  • Petrus (gas giant); Darkmoon in orbit
  • Timoon

Mainworld Data[edit]

Lying off the beaten track, the main world is Tsenjia, a low population water world with little in the way of indigenous life forms, which has been stocked with Terran sea life.

  • For much of its Imperial history, the system has been home to a Naval base on Darkmoon, a moon orbiting the outermost gas giant.
  • Darkmoon is also a water world, but one that is trapped beneath a thick layer of ice and kept in liquid form by the tidal effect of the gas giant.

Point of Interest: Terraforming Project[edit]

The Ministry of Colonization approved of plans to seed Tsenjia with Terran-derived organisms in 447.

  • By 695, imported fish stocks on Tsenjia reached an exploitable level. A modest export trade began. Almost all higher native species were extinct by this time.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Darkmoon has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The base was home to the System Defense Boat and Space-Submarine Warfare School, devoted to training in the tactics and methods necessary to assault and defend water worlds (specifically against System Defence Boats operating from under the sea). When the base was closed in 902, life on Tsenjia declined, including a drop in the system's tech level from TL9 to TL7.

  • Fortunately since 1105, life has improved in economic terms for the seven million inhabitants of Tsenjia, after the mega-corporation SuSAG opened the Darkmoon Imperial Prison for over three thousand inmates.
  • The medium and maximum security TL12 facility lies on the floor of Darkmoon's ocean, making escape rather difficult.
  • Of course, inmates are expected to work while they serve out their sentence and the corporation gives them two choices. The first is as test subjects for SuSAG's biochemical research division, and the second is as part their underwater salvage program.

Imperial Landed Nobility (N)[edit]

Darkmoon, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of two members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Darkmoon has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

World Demographics[edit]

Humaniti, population 100%

World Government (G)[edit]

Darkmoon has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

Historical Data[edit]

In 339, a convoy of colonial transports bound for the Spinward Marches Sector was traveling through Naadi Subsector. Diverted from its original route by military activity elsewhere in Corridor, the convoy jumped into system 328-904 to perform wilderness refueling. At the system's outer gas giant (Petrus) it was ambushed by a large Vargr squadron. The Imperial destroyer Darkmoon was in high guard position, and despite overwhelming odds, was able to hold off the raiders until the transports could finish their fuel skimming and escape. The ship's sacrifice saved 17,245 civilian lives. To honour the action of the destroyer and its crew, the Ministry of Colonization petitioned successfully for the IISS to name system 328-904 "Darkmoon".
