A career Imperial Naval officer, Craig selected the navy's technical branch. Retiring as a Fleet Admiral to his fief on Warinir, he brought with him a tremendous lifetime of training in leadership and organization, proving again the old wisdom, "there is no fitting preparation for a king than to have been trained in the navy."
Certainly one of the most quietly brilliant men in the Imperium, Craig was a completely unknown quantity to his people when the news of Strephon's assassination arrived in Daibei in late 1116.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Rebellion[edit]
In 1118 he headed the de facto secession from the Third Imperium, expertly holding off the incursions of the Solomani. This he has also done without attracting attention to himself, another skill he probably learned in the politically charged Imperial Navy.
During the Rebellion, the Aslan began sending Ihatei into the Reaver's Deep region, abrogating the ancient Peace of Ftahalr. Craig realized that there was little he could do to stop them if he was to maintain his fleet strength along the more threatened ‘Imperial’ borders, so instead he bargained with the Aslan. His usual terms were to recognize and not oppose annexation of territory in return for military assistance. In the short-term he gained the services of Aslan mercenaries. Longer-term, he gained the promise of assistance from their clans though at a high price in territory.
Collapse[edit]
During the Collapse, Duke Craig saw that there was no possibility of defending all worlds. He employed a different strategy. While using the Ducal Fleet as a mobile reserve, he provided information to all worlds to defend themselves against Virus and assistance to as many worlds possible. His strategy brought mixed results as most worlds collapsed from Virus. By 1138 he created the Defended Zones strategy to protect key worlds from attack. He created the Daibei Assistance Force to further assist worlds to defend themselves.
Death[edit]
Duke Craig died soon after the bombing of Warinir. Duke Craig surrendered to forces of Lucan and the Black Imperium to prevent further destruction to the world. He was executed aboard the Black Imperium flagship Capital Prime. His legacy inspired the creation of the Sons of Craig.
