Colfax is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.

• This world has yet to take off economically or otherwise and the population remains low for reasons largely unknown.
• This die back world was once settled and developed, but the inhabitants have either died off or left leaving behind the ruins and remnants of their civilization.
• It is a member of the Third Imperium in the McKenzie Subsector of Alpha Crucis Sector in the Domain of Sol.
• This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
• It was the homeworld of the Mockmole, an extinct sophont species and minor race.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Colfax is a solitary star system with eight planets, one major planetoid and one asteroid belt. Amongst the planets is a single gas giant. The type G star of Colfax has a habitable zone at around 1 AU from the star.

Native life evolved on Colfax culminating in a native sophont species.

Native Sophont: Mockmole

Colfax is the homeworld of an extinct TL 0 indigenous minor race, the hexapodal burrowing mockmoles.

• The species were ruthlessly exploited as laborers by the Solomani settlers and were extirpated following a rebellion in 888.
• After Imperial capture of the world in the Solomani Rim War, in 1012 nearly the entire surviving adult Solomani population were found collectively guilty of genocide.
• Almost 27,000 men and women were shipped off to Imperial prison planets or deported to other worlds for hard labor.

World Demographics

Colfax was once home to tens of thousands of Solomani settlers. After they were collectively found guilty in the enslavement and genocide of the Mockmoles they were forcefully deported to other worlds deeper into the Imperium. Only small scatterings of Solomani families that escaped the Imperial purge are thought to remain in the wilderness of the planet.

All other known inhabitants of the planet are members of the Imperial Scout Service living in a research station.

World Culture

No information is available about the former culture of Solomani settlers on Colfax.

Historical Data

When Colfax was first colonized by Terran settlers the TL 0 Mockmoles were discovered. They were forced into slavery by the settlers. The small elite Solomani settler population exploited this native race to sustain a luxury lifestyle.

In 888 the Mockmole population attempted a revolution, which was suppressed by the Colfax settlers and Solomani military garrisons. In 998 during the Solomani Rim War Imperial agents made contact with the remaining Mockmole population, smuggled in weapons, and trained them for a second rebellion. SolSec discovered the operation and the settlers pre-empted the uprising in a ruthless genocide that included the use of chemical weapons. The entire population of the Mockmole race was destroyed.

In 1001 Colfax fell during the Imperial advance into the McKenzie subsector. Evidence of the genocide was discovered and the Imperial Ministry of Justice investigated the event. In 1012, the entire surviving Solomani population were collectively found guilty of the crime of genocide. 27,000 Solomani men and women were deported to Imperial prisons or to other worlds for hard labour.

Since the deportation of the Solomani no resettlement of the planet has occurred. Officially the only population on the planet is single Imperial Scout Services research station. This station was founded with the purpose of researching the remains of the extinct Mockmole culture for posterity. It is believed that a few Solomani families escaped the Imperial purge and are not living in the wilderness of the planet.
