Chirpers are immature Droyne who have not been casted. If Droyne do not caste, they continue development, though very slowly. Sexual differences emerge, but casteless Droyne remain small and semi-intelligent and continue to resemble immature Droyne. Those Droyne groups which have lost the ability to caste (these are fairly common) live as primitives. Chirpers are also psionic to cloud the minds of beings around it, making itself seem to be invisible. Only mature Chirpers can do this. A chirper may occasionally befriend a human.

Chirpers come in two varieties, which may be dubbed Type A and Type B:

  • Type A is the most common. They have lost the ability to caste even if they are shown how to use coyns.
  • Type B are much rarer. They retain the ability to learn how to caste but simply haven't been shown how.

The existence of two types of Chirpers is spelled out in Alien Realms where one Chirper village is found to be able to caste, unlike all the other villages. It can also be deduced from the fact that many Chirper villages on Vanejen have several sets of coyns but evidently don't use them for casting.

Yaskoydray must have tried to teach them, but in vain.

Rebellion Era (Click Show to reveal)
Towards the latter part of the Rebellion, A number of Droyne suddenly developed a desire to invade neighboring worlds in order to "uplift" their downtrodden Chirper relatives on human worlds. At least, that's what they claimed. For milleniums these oytripin had kept themselves to themselves and suddenly they decided to go crusading in order to help someone who doesn't belong to the oytrip. Riiiight... Especially since most of those Chirpers must be unable to caste.
