The star 36 Ophiuchi is a triple star system composed of three yellow-orange K-type main sequence dwarf stars.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The stars 36 Ophiuchi A and 36 Ophiuchi B orbit one another with a period of about 568.9 years with a large eccentricity of e=0.922 at an average separation of 88AU.
- Due to the extreme eccentricity of the orbit, the separation of 36 Ophiuchi A and 36 Ophiuchi B varies between 7.0AU at periastron to 169AU at apastron.
- The habitable zone about either 36 Ophiuchi A or 36 Ophiuchi B where an Terra-normal world would have liquid water on its surface is estimated to be between 0.47AU and 1.005AU.
The star 36 Ophiuchi C orbits the 36 Ophiuchi AB binary pair at a distance of ~4800AU.
- The habitable zone about 36 Ophiuchi C where an Terra-normal world would have liquid water on its surface is estimated to be between 0.4AU and 0.5AU with an orbital period of roughly 150 days.
The 36 Ophiuchi star system lies approximately 5.9pc from Terra, and is located in a Coreward/Cortrailing direction from Terra at bearing 358.3o Galactic Longitude and +06.9o North Galactic Latitude.
