1804 Yeremyh (Imperial)

Starport: Class V.

Hydrographics: None.

Population: 53 million.

Non-canon: Yeremyh is a small, harsh world where the inhabitants live in underground cities. Tidally locked to its primary, an M8 dwarf only six million kilometers away, the planet is technically "cool" in climate, but this hardly matters. The atmosphere is too thin and too polluted to breathe without a respirator, and does little to reduce the sleet of radioactive particles from the solar wind of the nearby primary, which makes moving around the chilly, desert surface in anything less than a shielded vehicle or spacesuit a risky business.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Yeremyh is a poor, non-agricultural desert hellworld located in the Azaremiid Cluster within Concord Subsector of the Solomani Rim.

Non-canon: The government is a totalitarian dictatorship that controls the media, provides strict guidelines for what may be taught or preached in the schools and in religious meeting halls, and reserves the right to monitor or place under house arrest any person for any length of time if "the safety of the state" requires it. The planet has a high technology level, which means that the average person enjoys a fairly comfortable lifestyle, but a number of citizens chaff at the bland and regulated society.

The political system on Yeremyh is centered on the Elector and the governors. Each of the major cities on Yeremyh (and any smaller settlements assigned to its jurisdiction) is ruled by a governor. There are thirty in all. The governors choose one of their own to act as a planetary president, known as the Elector, who serves for life unless removed by a vote of No Confidence (which may or may not involve the use of firearms, poisons, or explosives). The Electors vary. Some are figureheads for a clique of governors. Some are strongmen who dominate the governors. If there is any constant in Yeremyse politics, it is that an Elector must never be too weak or too strong; the former invites ambition and the latter invites acts of desperation.
